Best Christmas Songs – I Want An Alien For Christmas

Last year I wanted to put “I Want an Alien for Christmas” on my 25 Days of Best Christmas Songs but I got behind in my posting and it never made it.

Best Christmas Songs

Sure, a song called “I Want an Alien for Christmas” has all the makings of a novelty song like “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” But “Alien” is actually a song that you won’t want to kill someone after hearing it three times.

I Want An Alien For Christmas – The Fountains of Wayne

“I Want An Alien For Christmas” was written by the Fountains of Wayne, a band formed by Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood

The band was named after a lawn ornament store in Wayne, New Jersey. Previous band names included Woolly Mammoth, Are You My Mother? and my favorite Three Men Who When Standing Side by Side Have a Wingspan of Over Twelve Feet.

Schlesinger went on to write the title song for the film That Thing You Do! I’m sure he’s made a pretty penny from that catchy little number. He also wrote most of the songs for the Josie and the Pussycats movie.

And the band’s big hit was “Stacey’s Mom,” which has over 53,000,000 hits on Youtube.

“I Want an Alien for Christmas” was released in 2005 on the Out of State Plates album, which also included the Christmas song “Man in the Santa Suit.”

I hope you enjoy the song.

I Want an Alien for Christmas – Lyrics

This year for Christmas
There’s something I’d really like
So if you’re up there somewhere Santa
Please don’t bring me another bike

I don’t need any ugly sweaters
And I don’t play much basketball
But there’s something kinda special
That I want most of all…

I want an alien for Christmas
Bring me an alien this year
I want a little green guy
About three feet high
With seventeen eyes

Who knows how to fly
I want an alien for Christmas this year

He can live in the bath tub
So don’t worry about a thing
And I’ll take him out for walks
When it gets nicer in the Spring

I’ll always keep him company
He’ll never be alone
And we can hang around the house all day
And watch the Twilight Zone

I want an alien for Christmas
Bring me an alien this year
I want a little green guy

About three feet high
With seventeen eyes
Who knows how to fly
I want an alien for Christmas this year

I want an alien for Christmas
Bring me an alien this year
I want a little green guy
About three feet high
With seventeen eyes

Who knows how to fly
I want an alien for Christmas this year
I want an alien for Christmas this year

The Best Christmas Songs

I love Christmas music. I’m all for Bing Crosby and Burl Ives, but my tastes lean towards the more offbeat Christmas Songs. I think they make for a superb Christmas play list. Put them on yours. You won’t be sorry.

Day 1. “Good Time Christmas” by Lou Rawls

Day 2. “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)” by The Ramones
