Best Christmas Songs – Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)

“Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)” by The Ramones is definitely on my 25 Days of Christmas Songs list. It’s truly one of the best Christmas songs of my generation.

And frankly, what Christmas song playlist is complete without a punk band on it. And what says Christmas better than a song that basically says, “Can we just make it through the holidays without killing each other?”

Best Christmas songs The Ramones

Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight) – The Ramones

“Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)” was released in 1989 on the Brain Drain album. I think the song may have been a B-Side release in 1987.

Joey Ramone reworked the song, slowed it down and softened the edges, and released it in 2001. It sucks. The original is much better.

Lyrics

Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight with

Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight
Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight
Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight with you

Where is Santa at his sleigh?
Tell me why is it always this way?
Where is Rudolph? Where is Blitzen, baby?
Merry Christmas, merry merry merry Christmas

All the children are tucked in their beds
Sugar-plum fairies dancing in their heads
Snowball fighting, it’s so exciting baby

I love you and you love me
And that’s the way it’s got to be
I loved you from the start
‘Cause Christmas ain’t the time for breaking each other’s heart

Where is Santa at his sleigh?
Tell me why is it always this way?
Where is Rudolph? Where is Blitzen, baby?
Merry Christmas, merry merry merry Christmas

All the children are tucked in their beds
Sugar-plum fairies dancing in their heads
Snowball fighting, it’s so exciting baby

Ay yeah yeah yeah

I love you and you love me
And that’s the way it’s got to be
I knew it from the start
‘Cause Christmas ain’t the time for breaking each other’s heart

Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight with
Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight with
Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight with you

The Best Christmas Songs

I love Christmas music. I’m all for Bing Crosby and Burl Ives, but my tastes lean towards the more offbeat Christmas Songs. I think they make for a superb Christmas play list. Put them on yours. You won’t be sorry.
