Galavant Premieres Sunday

Galavant Musical

Galavant, ABC’s midseason, medieval musical debuts this Sunday, January 4th.

Oh how I wish I had written Galavant. And if I hadn’t created it, oh how I wish I had been one of the writers on the project. This musical is right up my alley. It’s been called “fast-paced, irreverent, and very, very silly.” My adaptation of Tom Jones has been called “a fast-paced, take-no-prisoners Monty Python-style farce.”

You see? A perfect match.

The creative team of Galavant is Dan Fogelman, Alan Menken, and Menken’s lyricist Glenn Slater. Not a shabby trio.

The basic plot of Galavant is thus:

Galavant, a swashbuckling knight attempts to rescue his lady love, Madalena from the clutches of the evil King Richard.

Boom. Done. A great, simple plot.

Glenn Slater has written some extremely funny and witty lyrics. Below is one of the songs.

I may have been lukewarm about Into the Woods but I can’t wait to watch this musical.
